Hi Guys, Its colder than He!!, got my 1700 in the basement garage with a block heater. It starts on demand after 30 min heater time. It's a good thing as we have 12" of snow on the ground here in Kansas with another 3 to 5 predicted for Wednsday. I just cleared my drive and would have never made it out if not for the trusty 1981, 1700 4x4 which I have owned from new and put 1010 hours on it as the sole driver. Ray We can all use some good positive information, can't we?

Nice! I've got a 2x4 1700, seems to be quite a few of them around.
How do you handle the snow? Do you have a loader?

How much did those cost back then, if you remember?

Mines an ornery starter with 2700 hours, I put the lower radiator heater on which helps alot, as long as I remember to plug it in.

JB.

As near as I can remember it cost me $6200 total including a rear 5' box blade. I do not have a front loader but wish I did.:) There has never been deep enough snow to get me stuck. The 4x4 is unstopable, how ever I do have calcium in the rear tires and 3 front weights.

I had one also, built Nov 1980, bought Easter 1981. Traded it for a 1710 w/FEL in June 1997 and got about what I'd paid for it on trade. Not too bad I'd say.

Ya, good deal, I'll bet OP could still get what he paid for his.

That's a safe investment :) I doubt that will be the case with these new $30,000. 30 HP machines :(

I am glad the old 1700 is bedded down in the lower garage where it will be dry and have electricity as the weather man has issued a severe storm warning for tomorrow with 3-5" if blowing snow and wind chills of -20 to -30 here in eastern Kansas. This winter is getting old fast. Ray:eek:

That is a very good point! It never hit me like that but you are so right. I have a 1986 1210 that is worth as much or more as I paid 23 years ago.

All that has much more to do with the relative value of the dollar in 1986 and 2010 than the "value" of the tractor. In these days of low inflation/deflation, we will have a whole new dynamic of equipment values in the coming years.

That is true Rick but when compared to the value of a car from 1986 the tractor is a much better investment.

SLD;
Hope you never need any major parts as you know they are as scarse as hens teeth. I know of one where the resale was really low..... about the price of attachments. Hope you have continued good luck.
