If you haven't already done so, you might want to see if there is a beekeeping club sponsored by your ag extension office. These persons will be excellent resources.

Yes, our club had free classes to over 100 people and anyone that wants one will get a mentor that will help. Please monitor the mite count before and after any treatment. It can be done several ways. You don't want to treat if you don't have to. I don't know about your area, but around here you can get between 0 and 100lbs of honey the first year. It's good to expect zero though.
That would be a good outcome, 0-100 lbs of honey. I have experience with bees. I had 14 hives as a teenager. My grandpa taught me how to manage them. The only new thing is the mites. We simply did not have them back in the day the way we have them now.
