Price Check 2000-2001 790

Found a 790 that's either a 00-01 has the vertical exhaust, around 800 hrs, cleaner than I have ever seen a used one, 1 owner barn kept, with 5' agri cutter hog, asking 12500, what you guys think? Also will a 790 be able to handle a sickle mower? To be used for ditch mowing and other areas that can't get tractor under with hog, Thanks

I'd guess that particular 790 model is a 30hp with the larger cubic inch engine. Especially, with a 5' brush hog mower!

Should do just fine with a smaller sickle mower. That's certainly one of the advantages of a sickle mower - lower hp requirement. I've got a Ford-Ferguson 9N that's only 24hp. Quite a bit of hay was cut back in the day with the 9N!

Can't say on price... Take a look around on eBay, Craigslist, tractorhouse, machinefinder, etc. That'll give you a better idea on asking prices; at least.

I bought my 790 which was a 2003 model and had 24 hours on the meter. I paid $12500 in 2004. No implements, however.
That's for comparison purposes...if you like the tractor, the price is right (but I'd still dicker some...might get $500-$1000 off).

That price seems high to me for the age and # of hrs, when I did my cost comparison I looked on the web at Machinery Finder but keep in mind those are JD Dealer prices. Also go to Google and do a search with craigslist in the search phrase and you'll see what's out there, EBay is also good when you're trying to get a feel for cost. I purchased my 4WD '04 with 325 hrs, mid PTO Mower and FEL from a JD Dealer this past September (pictured) they wanted $12,200 and settled for $11,500. If you've got your sights on a 790 do a search on this site "790" and read the thread about front axle issues with regards to correct ballast. I went out and purchased a Ballast Box right after reading that information since my 790 only came with rear wheel weights which does not relieve pressure on the front axle when using a FEL.
