2000 john deere 4400 hst

Was wondering what you guys thought about the john deere 4400.. theres one for sale near me looks pretty nice and clean but has 3,000 hours on it .. thats the only part im worried about.. asking 10 grand. What do you guys think? Thanks

I just picked up a 2000 JD 4200 with loader and 72" mmm. 1500 hrs, clean, new turfs on the rears for 8900. Not sure where you are or what your market is like, I'm in Western NY

That 4400 has a Yanmar engine...great engines and definitely will exceed 5000 hours.
As Rob wrote, tractor prices (including used tractors) vary regionally. To me, $10K is about $2K too much...but may be the going price in your area.
How's the machine look, outside the number of hours on it?

Generally speaking, diesel engines should last around 8,000 hours so you shouldn't be concerned about just 3,000 hours. I have a 4300 that's 17 years old and has 1,000 hours, looks and runs like new. It lives indoors and gets TLC. I think 10K for a 4400 that hasn't been abused is a good price. However, before buying, be sure to test all of its features.

I have one. I 've owned it for about 14 years. Bought it used with about 450 hrs on the meter, but I think it had more. Then I bought the backhoe for it and added a third outlet on the rear. I originally bought it for a 15 acre property and used it for mowing and moving trees that I had cut down and then digging out stumps and trenching for power lines. Then we bought a larger property and I have again been using the heck out of it, for mowing, grading, snow removal, a lot of other loader work, trenching for power and water lines, digging about 300 post holes for perimeter and pasture fencing along with whatever else I could use it for. It's been a tough little machine and is starting to show a little smoke when I start it up. The only real issues that have bothered me is that I have had to replace the hood and side panels as they have a tendency to crack at the hinges and mounts over time. I now have around 2100 hrs on it and I am considering retiring the machine for either a 4052 or 5055, preferably with a cab.
