I just acquired a used JD Gator form my company. It has 1200 hours on it but runs great. The body panels are cracked and rattling but are all there. It was used in a refinery for the last 7 years and saw its share of abuse. I can't find much on the net about it. The only ones I can find are the normal 6x4 green everyday Gators. This one is yellow and is listed as an industrial worksite ConstruGator. It is way beefier than the ones I see at the local JD dealership. It has a 3-cyl JD diesel, but everything else is the same as far as the tranny and drive system. It also has the ROPS bar overhead and the undercarriage protection is built like a tank. I know for a fact it will pull a 1/2 ton truck out of a deep ditch (won't go into that story), but it doesn't like mud too much (won't go into that one either!). My company paid $15,000 each for two of them in 2001.
I am looking for any information as to where I can find aftermarket stuff such as camo body panels, winches, hydraulic dump kits for the bed, etc. It already has the typical oversize tires which look like they are wide enough for a top fuel dragster. Anyone have any ideas? Are there options for more aggressive tires to help pull through the mud? Any way to lift it?(it doesn't have a lot of clearance, but it also doesn't have any suspension on the rear. The axles protrude straight out of the body and don't appear to be moveable.)
I plan to use it around my property. Mostly work detail around the yard and inspection of my 20 acres and the 300 acres I oversee next to me. It may see some hunting use, but I have my 4 wheeler for that already. I won't be using it for mud riding, but would like for it to be able to make it through some of the spots around my place, which will require some clearance. The tires on it now will handle the rest as long as it doesn't high center.
Thanks,
