Greetings all. New to the forum and debating a tractor purchase. My wife and I are looking at a 50 acre farm. The current owner has a 2003 4310 HST 4x4 with 420 loader and ballast box. It has between 300 and 400 hours on it. She used it to haul compost to the 1/2 acre garden and clean out the cattle stalls in the barn.

She is asking 20,000. It seems high but I am in southern Ontario, Canada so our pricing is higher then the US. I have found a few for sale at dealers and some were more expensive but were TLBs and some were less but higher hours. How much negotiation room is there with dealers in general? My closest dealer has a 2011 3720 HST 4X4 with 300CX loader and just under 600 hours for 23,000. Would that be a better bet?

We will want to get a post hole auger for it as we will be putting in some fencing for livestock. We will haul some compost and clean the barn as well. Eventually we will probably get a tiller, shredder and maybe a box blade. We are starting the farm small and will be adding a larger tractor eventually.

Thanks for having such a great forum

Not real sure what the conversion rate is but I would expect $13000 -$17000 us. It does have very low hours on it. I do like the way the arms connect to the tractor better on the 300cx series than the 420/430. I have a 4310 with the 430 loader and it works great, getting close to the 1000 hr mark with no problems. My loader arms make so much noise and movement when driving over broken ground. I would try to work a better price into the farm sale price if you decide you want the 4310.

Thanks mfreund. I think the owners don't really want to sell the tractor. My wife and I have talked it over and for not much more we could have new with warranty and 0% financing. Plus we get to shop for the right tractor for us and not just what's available. I am sure you guys will be hearing from me as the researching continues.

Looking at the asking prices for the 4310 and 3720...I'd go for the 3720.

Thanks Roy. That's the conclusion I have come to in the limited amount of research I have done. We are getting the farm appraised this week. If it checks out we will be selling our house. Nice thing is we have lots of time to find the right one.

Will do. We aren't in a hurry as in could be a year plus. We have a couple projects to be done in the house and some fencing to get up. That should keep us busy for the first little while:).
