2003 Mahindra 4500 4WD
Hello All,
Newbe here so pardon the ignorance.
I was wondering if anyone has a 4500 4WD or similar Mahindra with a fel or bh on it. I bought a ’03 last year that didn’t come with any attachments except a bush hog. I just got a backhoe attachment cheap and want to hook up hydraulics to it. The manual doesn’t have any info on how to tap into the system to supply power to anything other than the auxiliary hook up in the back. Could anyone shoot a picture of how they tap into this system? Maybe shoot a couple of pictures and describe the parts? It would be greatly appreciated. I have read a bit on this forum and realize that the tractors hydraulics may not be sufficient for the bh, but I will be adding a fel soon.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm gonna jump in here and ask for more info....I'm assuming you do have a set of remotes in the back (ie. "auxiliary hook up"). If so you probably can run the hoe off it. What kind of hoe?? Are you gonna get a subframe? If so, you need to know that the FEL, unless its a Bradco/Mahindra hoe impacts your FEL framing. I think you need to list all your needs/wants by make/model and then get ready for the replies. If its a 3PT hook up you don't need to worry about the subframe stuff. Can't really give decent answers without more info...Sorry, BobG in VA

Good questions. It is an IH 3082 that has 3pt pickup built into it with a couple of straps that come back to either the frame or hitch. Not sure just how I'm going to do that yet. I may at sometime decide to make a sub frame to hook it to the tractor. For the time being, I need to get hydraulic power to it so that I can shift the back hoe around a bit to be able to more easily pick it up.
The tractor is equipped with the auxiliary hook ups, but they are controlled with a valve. (Raise and lower a disc or something like that hooked to the back.)
As far as the FEL, I plan on building one.

You need to fill in the personal profile. Unless you are a master mechanic and metal fabricator with a plasma cutter and both a stick and mig welder (one for strenght and one for looks...) as well as an unlimited supply or steel and hydraulic stuff, you probably would be better off buying the FEL. The 00 series Mahindras are strong tractors with 11 GPM hyd. output. Take a look at the Mahindra site/00 series tractors with the FELs. If you really can build one, make sure you have a good digital camera, cause I wanna watch!! Good Luck! BobG in VA

What is the fun in owning something if you can't build it yourself? :) Back on task here, Bob, it looks like you have a 6000. Am I correct in saying that my 4500 is just a smaller version of your 6000? If so, could you fill me in on where the hydraulics taps into the system for your fel?
Thanks much,
Kyle

Don't know why you don't build the tractor too,...that would be reallll funnnn!
Take a look at the Mahindra site and check out the specs...on both the 4500 and the 6000. The 4500 is 3 cyl and 6000 is 4 cyl. Of course the tires are smaller on the 4500, but its a nice unit. Hydraulics, trans, diff, PTO speeds are the same. I really don't know much about how the hyds run the FEL, only that the line runs up to the joystick and 4 or so lines leave and go forward. Also has a return line, I believe. I'm the wrong guy to talk hyds with, I'm afraid....You need to go to a Mahindra dealer and see for yourself how they do it. Sorry, BobG in VA

Hmmm. That would be fun.
Thanks for checking into it for me. There is problem with going to a dealership. The one that sold this tractor originally is about 30 miles away and they don't keep any in stock any more. Closest other than them is 63 miles then goes out to 100+ miles for the next. Not real thrilled about that. I'm hoping someone can trace the supply and discharge lines back to where they tie into the system.

Just above the hydraulic filter on your 4500 the hydraulic pressure line should run to the rear of the tractor. There should be a place where the line comes apart in the area of the hydraulic filter. Attach the in port of your opencenter loader valve to the front section of the pressure line. Attach the PB (power beyond) port to the rear section of the pressure line. Plumb the out (drain) port to the drain plug hole on the RT rear lower corner of the tractor hydraulic reservoir. If you don't have a clue as to what I am talking about don't try it. I wouldn't want to see anybody get hurt which can happen with hydraulic pressure. If you have any questions feel free to call me.

I know right where you are talking about. There is, for lack of a better word, a coupler in the middle of the line right above the filter. I can break into it for when I put a FEL on the tractor. Thank you for the info.
That handles the FEL. How can I supply power to the back hoe? Can I run it out of my axilary lines? (They are controlled by a dcv I believe.)
One other thing, are these fittings english or metric? I've determined they are some sort of compression (unflared I think.)
Thanks again.
