I am going today to look at a 2003 F150, reg cab V6 with a 5 speed. It may replace my 97. The truck will be used to run around mainly, no towing. Any input on this engine? I know the V8 engines spit plugs occasionally, what issues if any for this motor? It has 85k miles, they want 7900, but I am in the 65-6900 neighborhood.

I used on of my friends one time. It was a automatic. I believe the 5 speed has a really tow limit, like 3,000#

In my opinion it's not that great on fuel compared to the 4.6 V8 and 5,000# towing was all it wanted with his automatic 4x4.

Me personally would look for a 3V 4.6 V8 for running around.

i will be doing little to no towing with the truck. We have the Tundra for that. That being said, I drove the truck today and just did not get a good feeling about it. It looked really good in the online pictures but was really scratched up and rough in person. It needed new tires, some buttons did not work on the radio and the bed interior was beat up pretty good. Another turn off was it had a brake box, which tells me it did do some towing and it is not known for its towing capabilities. It also had a surge from 1200-2000 rpms, no check engine lights came on, which lead me to believe it was in the trans/clutch or rear end. They were asking 7900 for the truck- this truck was a 4500 truck all day, even with 85k miles. It would have cost me 1k-1500k to get it roadworthy in my opinion.

Yea, pass on that one.
