I was mowing my field and the engine started to idle down then stopped as if it were out of fuel. I filled it up but it was only about half tank empty. It finally started and ran fine for about a minute of two then the same thing happened. It seemed like it was out of fuel. I got it started again and just made it to the barn before it quit again. I replaced the fuel filter and check all the lines for blockage. The engine only has about 100 hours on it. Any suggestions. I need to finish mowing the field.

Any leaks in the fuel system, particularly around the sediment bowl could be sucking air. Also follow the fuel line from the sediment bowl to the inj pump. remove the banjo bolt attaching that line to the pump. There is a strainer in the bolt, check it for debris/blockage.

Unscrew the priming pump and make sure diesel is flowing back into the tank with each stroke.

let us know if any of this helps!

I haven't seen any leaks in the fuel lines but I will check again. I did unscrew the bolt on top of the fuel filter housing and push the primer pump several times and fuel did come out. I also tried to start the engine with the bolt removed and fuel did come out.

There are several filters in the Jinma fuel system. There are thimble filters at the fuel tank and sediment bowl, there is the fuel pump, then the spin on filter. If the fuel system gets clogged or contaminated, all of it has to be cleaned.

I had stirred the sediment in my fuel system early on and it took a while to get it all cleaned out. It behaved much as you describe.

I took the clean it out approach from the tank all the way to the fuel filter. Found a bunch of black gunk in several places. Now it works OK.

Mine doesn't start as easily as I'd like, but a few seconds of glow plug fixes that and it starts just fine. Once it's warm, it starts in under a second.

Engines need 2 things. Fuel and air.

So far all the efforts have focused on your fuel system. Make sure you don't have air intake obstructions.

Good point. At my 50 hr service, my air cleaner was a collection of dust and fuzz. Ran a lot better after I cleaned that mess out.

Thanks for the reminder.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I drained the fuel and cleaned out all the lines from the tank to the primer pump. I did not find a lot of debris, but did find some. The seal around the sediment bowl did not seem to reseal properly when I put it back on. The o-ring seemed stretched out. I could hear it sucking air when I pushed the primer pump. I'm not sure if this is the problem but it did the same thing when I started it up the next several times. I did also check and blow out the air filter with compressed air. It really wasn't too bad.

I tried to call my dealer - Steve at Puma Machinery, but both numbers I had for him were disconnected with no further information. Does anyone know of a Jinma dealer near Washington, PA (southwestern PA). I would like to order an o-ring and a new sediment bowl just in case. Also I need some parts for the 3-point hitch linkage.

The sediment bowl can let air into the system, I have heard of them literally collapsing under the suction caused by the injector pump, (probably do to the strainer in the tank being blocked), so a leak could easily draw air.

Any air getting into the system works it way into the injector and the air "bubble" compresses rather than building enough pressure to "pop" the injector open, so no fuel enters the combustion chamber.

DIYguy brought up a good point, all the strainers, filters and screens should be checked, but the most common two problems are the thimble strainer in the inj pump feed line and the flow to that point out of the tank whcih can be either the tank strainer or the sedement bowl leaking.

Bob is also right about the air intake, but I have not seen as many air restriction problems as fuel problems on these tractors.

Sounds like Steve may have left the busniess? noticed the web site no longer comes up... He had been real active on the old CTOA board at one time.
