Hi all. I have a B7500. I made a plow mount for the front loader and attached a galvanized 6ft plow I was able to buy. I used it the first year with no problems but wasnt able to complete the installation of any angling mechanism. This year I decided to take this up and wanted to use a double acting "lift" cylinder that I have left over from a power broom I previously had. I connected the cylinder to the "bucket curl/dump" quick connects temporarily in order to extend and retract it, so I can figure out length and mounting positions. I noticed it would only extend but not retract so after a few tries I got mad and shoved the control lever to the right forcefully. This is when I felt _and remembered the detent_ and the cylinder retracted. It stays retracted as long as is i'm pushing on the detent but if I let go it springs back a half inch or so and then holds position. ( at this point I also remembered the "regen" funtion on these loaders. My question(s) is:
1. Is it ok to use the circuit this way to angle the plow?
2. Would it hold against pressure in either position?
3. If I hit a corner will I be in danger of blowing something up or is it designed to go through a relief valve anyway?

BTW I tried at fist to use a cheap winch I had laying around but as I was testing it on dirt the cable snapped and to be honest It looked and felt cheesy so I dont recommend trying it. I was proud that I was able to rig the winch to alternatively pull both sides but I bragged to my wife too son as it broke on first try anyway:(
PS the third picture shows the cylinder I intent to use which was attached to the mounting frame for the broom

With any hydraulic control such as a loader valve, the relief valve is only in the circuit when a control lever is activated.

All control levers in neutral and you have no protection should you hit anything with the corner of the plow.

Thanks Dave... good to know. It kind of makes sense. I just have to be careful. With only one cylinder and a short pivot point, a corner hit will send a lot of back pressure through to the hoses and connectors!

Many plow setups use two single acting cylinders. Because each cylinder has the same volume of oil per inch of stroke it is easy to use a cross over relief valve to deal with pressure spikes by venting oil into the opposite cylinder.

Yeah that makes sense as well but I have this cylinder on hand and for now I thought I would just disconnect the curl function temporarily and hook it up to that at least for proof of concept. If it works good I will then (maybe for next year) upgrade to an electric diverter valve and possibly 2 plow cylinders with a cross over relief valve (I'm still not sure but there has to be a way to make one retract when the other extends...maybe by reversing the hoses on one of them)

The difficulty with double acting cylinders is that they move different volumes of fluid on a push stroke compared to a pull stroke because of the volume occupied by the metal push rod.

Ohh... thats right! plow cylinders are single acting....well, there goes that thought :( I guess I will have to stick to one cylinder then. As soon as I try it out I will post how it works Thanks for your help.
