Need some help with this. Tractor starting doing this occasionally a couple months ago. Weather was warm so I know its not a glowplug or fuel gel problem. After waiting for the glowplig light to go out, I turn the key and will start but then immediately dies. Now it does it all the time except for once yesterday it finally started and ran fine for 30 minutes after doing this for 7-8 times. I can only think it may be electrical? Whatever tell the fuel pump to stop when you shut off the key may be malfunctioning? Today it does same thing.

Any ideas guys?

Start at teh battery ground cable where it attaches to the frame. Remove it and clean it. Install it tight to the frame with corrosion proof battery spray. Check the connections at the battery and clean them too. How old is the battery?
With a gloved hand move the ground cable from the frame while someone else tries to start the tractor. If it does not change anything keep looking further past the battery, assuming it is good continue to verify wire connections at key switch, starter solenoid, etc.
Post back results. One step at a time.

Mr. Coyote Machine,

You Sir, may have saved me much trouble it appears! The negative battery terminal was slightly loose. Once i cleaned and tightened it, the tractor is starting, and continuing to run, every time.

Apparently, I was making this problem more complex than it really was. I just never thought of the battery connections because it always cranked good and fired up.

Time will tell if this truly fixes the problem, but I am definitely feeling confident.

Thank you for taking the time to reply and provide great advise!

Always glad to help. Glad it was a simple thing. Iエve heard some say the battery clamps donエt fit the posts very well, and diesels will vibrate loose almost any connection/ bolt within range:confused3:
Tighten up those clamps and spray them with anti-corrosion spray!

In case your fix doesn't last... Once a diesel engine is started it will run just fine with no electrical power, except for the stop solenoid. I understand there were two versions: one that applies power to shut off the injection pump and the other applies power to allow the injection pump to pump fuel.

Thank you, I will keep that in mind if the battery issue doesn't solve this. That was my first line of thinking but I hope it's not the prob (keeping my fingers crossed)

I have had many problems with original batt clamps not making a secure contact with original batt posts on my DK35. In many cases, it was just a glaze forming between the two contact surfaces. I changed out both with regular NA batt components. Have had no similar problems since.

I had a similar problem with my Bobcat CT450 which might have a similar setup. The shutoff solonoid on the injector pump has two wires going to it, one circuit pulls the shutoff open for starting and the second circuit holds it open once it's running. My second circuit developed a short which manifested by the tractor starting for a few seconds then dying.

I think the dual (pull and hold) coil stop solenoid version began in mid (like May) 2007 production. Earlier models have a single SS coil for both pull and hold.
