2004 GMC Envoy Problems

Hey guys I need a little help. I have a 2004 GMC Envoy that has been an overall good vehicle. The other day on the way home the ABS and parking brake idiot lights came on and then about 2 miles down the road the entire dash light up then went blank. No lights no gauge readings, nothing. The car still runs fine, cruise control works, radio and climate control still functions fine. This is an intermittent problem and comes and goes randomly. It is a rebuilt vehicle, but it has performed flawlessly for over a year and 20,000 miles since the rebuild. Any ideas what could be wrong?

GM truck dash clusters of those years had many issues. Search the net for cluster rebuilds. They are everywhere and under $100 usually. I know almost all my friends who have owned GM trucks have went though this at least once.

Its a simple fix. Check EBAY for clusters that have been rebuilt, very common.

I have an 03 Envoy with 194000 miles and I bought in new. I just had to replace the alternator. (GM wanted $750, NAPA did it for $300)

When it went out I started getting some crazy lights on my cluster. Then it would start to charge intermittently and they would go out. Anyway, mine has been a great vehicle. I have pulled my boat and tractor, brakes wear really well, all in all the best vehicle I have ever owned; but I know not everyone has had that much luck.

It's probably what someone else mentioned above but you might want to check the alternator just in case. (by the way, I did not have NAPA put on a new belt, which I should have, and went back and did it myself, piece of cake)

If it turns out to be the cluster, there is a guy that advertises cluster repair. I have no connection to him and have not used the service but see the add when looking for 2004 chev cars. It won't fix if the whole cluster is bad, but perhaps can help?

Thanks for the help. I'm going to have the alternator tested today to see if thats it. I can replace it myself and would put a new belt on at that time. If its not the alternator then we will go the the cluster.

If it turns out to be the cluster, you might call a dealer. They had a "secret" recall for them and GM paid for a replacement on my 3/4 ton GMC well past the warrenty. They wouldn't pay for the labor, but I changed it out in about 30 min.

We have had 2 trailblazers and when those issues came up it was either the ignition switch or 4wd switch.

Sent the dash into a tizzy!!!!!!!!
