2004 tc 35 won't start

Hi all,

So I have a 2004 TC 35 that suddenly won't start. I have checked to insure that the PTO and other safeties are not preventing starting. Tractor was acting normally in every way until today it would not start. Battery seems fine. I'll check the connections tomorrow, but I doubt that is the problem. The ignition switch feels "off"; a kind of softness when it is turned to the starting position. Either I get no reaction at all from the tractor when I turn the key, or dashboard lights flash briefly and then go out.

Any thoughts about how to proceed appreciated.

If your gut is telling there is something just not right with your ignition switch then that would be my bet as well. I know for sure the TC33's switch was very flimsy. You will see a lot of posts where people have replaced it with a more robust one from NAPA.

Well, I was going to suggest reading all of the thread ( http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/new-holland-owning-operating/124642-tc33d-wont-start.html ) that is a sticky on this NH page. Then I realized you already had a similar problem and participated in that thread 8 years ago. Have you re-read that whole thread lately? There are several problems/solutions in there.

So All,

Given that I wasn't going to be able to work on the tractor until the following weekend, and also given that my gut was telling me "ignition switch", I decided to have the dealer mail me a replacement ignition and make that my first attempt at a fix. Thankfully, the hardest part about replacing the ignition switch for that model was getting access to the back of the switch behind the plastic body piece. Once accessed, the switch was easily traded out. Darned if that didn't fix the problem!! Tractor started right up!

As always, I appreciate all of the previous postings on other threads. The observations and resolutions of past problems gave me the confidence to take this on without a costly visit from or trip to the dealer. $35 and about 20 minutes of time..... Thanks all!
