05 CC 2042
Hey everyone, I'm new to the forums. I have an 05 2042 that has performed flawlessly since I've bought it. About a couple of weeks ago, I started my mower and it didn't want to stay running. Even on high throttle it was hesitating a bit. The weather is seasonable this time of year (upper 50s) but it never seemed to be a problem in previous years. The mower has about 250 hours on it so I thought that some things may need to be replaced. I picked up 2 spark plugs and an air filter. When I came back and examined the engine I noticed the filter looked chewed up from mice. It also looked like there was a nest they have built within the last month right near the spark plug. I vacuumed it out and replaced all the parts. My mower is still not performing like it should be and I could hear it idling up and down very lightly on full throttle. Also, It used to be able run with the brake locked and me not being on the tractor. Now, it shuts right off whenever I get up off the seat. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I would check that the mice didn't chew any hoses. Also check the throttle/governor linkage for any dirt or crud that may cause binding. Try to find a wiring diagram that can be downloaded via the web. There is a circuit that bypasses the seat interlock when the parking break is on, so you can get off the seat with it running. The PTO switch interrupts this circuit so the seat interlock will stop the engine if the PTO is engaged.
