While examining my 5254, I discovered that the hydro hose is wearing a hole in it (a flat spot with the wire reinforcing coming through). Also, the filter is dented on the bottom. This damage could only be caused by the MMM.

The hose I am talking about is the one coming out where the filter on the 2004 model screwed in. This hose goes from the pump directly to the filter. Probably the inlet hose. The the 2004 model filter was mounted horizontally instead of up inside the frame.

Anyone else have this problem?

Follow up.

I was just at the local dealer and looked at a new 5252. This same hose was rubbing on the drive shaft. What gives? This is a potentially serious problem. Cub needs to look into this problem.

I believe that the hose in question is the filter hose, part number 727-04098. Retail about $42.

Also, it is indeed the gear box from the mower deck that is hitting the filter. Not sure if hooking the rear lift rod and chain in a different hole would solve this problem. The unit on the 5252 that I saw at the dealers was installed in the top hole of the lift kit. If you ran over some uneven ground and the deck was pushed up, the deck would hit the filter in any event. Probably needs a plate such as the one protecting the auxiliary hydraulic pump (part of the mounting bracket).

Another follow-up:

Dealer just called. There is a service advisory CC-499 that covers the hose problem. It seems I have to do the work for my dealer.

As I understand it, the hoses on some machines are installed backwards. One end has a 90 and the other has a 45 degree fitting.

Cub is aware of the problem with the deck hitting the filter and doesn't intend to do anything about it, according to my dealer.

Can someone please post all service advisories related to the 2005 5000 series tractors?

Many thanks, Alan

Hi Alan,

There's an easy fix for your problem.

The Service Advisory CC-499 deals with this in very clear terms and clearly states that normal warranty terms apply. This means the dealer is paid for the repair. As a Cub Dealer for many years we've always found them to support their product.

If you will provide me with your serial number I can give you the SA's that apply. There aren't very many though and all are pretty minor in nature.

So far I would have to agree that Cub has taken care of the issues I have had. A new hydraulic hose is on order.

The concern I have is that the dealer does not seem aware of any potential problems until I make them aware of the specific service advisory.

Do you have any info on the filter problem? The deck will hit the filter, probably when going over uneven ground. My dealer says Cub is aware of the problem but is not going to do anything about it. A shorter filter, if available, would probably help.

Thanks, Alan

Cub is aware of the issue...

Your dealer needs to weld a Stop on the deck to prevent it from hitting the frame and filter.

The hydraulic hose problem has been resolved. In production it was installed backwards.

CubTech,

Thank you for the reply.

The hydro hose will be reversed soon. That problem is resolved.

I just talked to my dealer today and they did not indicate any knowledge about any deck STOP. Are they supposed to be aware of this fix? Do they know what is supposed to be done? Who pays?

Thanks, Alan

The dealer needs to contact Cub Service for further details.

It will be covered under warranty.
