The air bag deploying probably sealed the deal...Collision pars (non-oem) aren't too pricey for those trucks ...I had a '91 that had lighter but simialr damage from of all things two truck mirrors hitting onj the highway and landing on my truck at around 55 mpgh..Made a bigger mess than you can imagine...They paid to fix it.
As for the "R" titled vehicles..I used to do that kind of thing years ago, many state laws have made that whole opportunity, and it can be, very difficult now.
