Hello, I joined this forum to ask a question about buying a 2005 Kubota RTV900. I have a chance to buy a local rtv (45 miles) the guy wants $6300 for it. It has 600 hrs. and is a diesel. The machine as a whole seemed fairly solid however I did notice that the drive shaft going from the transmission to the front differential was extremely loose and had wear on the shafts because of this. What I would really like to know is how much would this cost to fix and what is a more reasonable price for this machine.

Thanks,

Kubota used a relief valve set to high pressure that would toss first time unsuspecting drivers and riders towards the dash . If the throttle was suddenly lifted. The heavy braking action beat the rear U-Joints, front drive shaft and front CVJ to bits. There are HD replacement driveline parts. There is a way to adjust the relief valve dawn to gradual gentle de-acelleration.
Most have had the 4WD shifter cable stretched to bits by drivers pulling harder instead of operating smarter. In case of doubt with any transmission shifting problem. Press the brake pedal to the floor first , release and try gently shifting.

I have a 2005 RTV 900, I purchased it new in 2005, front drive shaft was sloppy when it was new,but hasn't changed or hasn't gotten any worse. It is a great machine, it did have two recalls, one for the hood blowing off when machine was on a trailer, they mainly checked the glue joints where the hinge's were glued to the hood, the second recall is where they installed a spark arrestor on the tail pipe of the muffler. I have 130hrs on mine, I use it often but all short stop and go trips. I considered purchasing a new RTV, but looking at the new models, I'm sure my older model is built much better. in the 10 years I have owned it I only had to replace the seat, dealer Item, cost $450, seat and back rest come as a set. My original had a small tear, that would only get worse. So I put it on e bay and sold the old one for $280. other that normal maintenance items, like filters and fluids.I did install a fuel water separator, a bed liner, plastic roof, and hand throttle, the RTV 900 has been bullet proof.

Well the drive shaft is my main concern, it seems sloppy enough that if you were to pull it real hard in the mud that it would round the splines eventually. What I would like to know is if someone has replaced the shaft and yokes and what might the cost of this be if you bought at a Kubota dealer

As I said before, when I received my 2005 from the dealer the front drive shaft was very sloppy, they have two yokes on splines with a pin holding them in place. There just is no way to make the drive shaft tighten up the way Kubota engineered it. I have a tree farm, I hardly ever use four wheel drive, these RTV's are tanks. When I do feel the rear wheel slipping I engage the locking differential. I would look at the splines on the trans and differential, If you can't see any wear on the splines, I wouldn't worry, but if there is worn splines, then that would be a expensive repair.

Noticed our 2005 RTV 900 has 1529 hours on it!? We bought used with 500 hrs. for Under $8,000. Had a CV go on it, other than that my stepson just changes oil and filters. I did not realize we use it that much. Wow!

Fuel line freezing , Tires, new battery and bed is rusty, other than that, very dependable. Carries over 1,000 lbs, and it can dump about 900 lbs.
