Hello, I joined this forum to ask a question about buying a 2005 kubota RTV900. I have a chance to buy a local rtv (45 miles) the guy wants $6300 for it. It has 600 hrs. and is a diesel. The machine as a whole seemed fairly solid however I did notice that the drive shaft going from the transmission to the front differential was extremely loose and had wear on the shafts because of this. What I would really like to know is how much would this cost to fix and what is a reasonable price for this machine.

Thanks,

Kubota has a kit that updates the bearings that support the propeller shaft, but installing it requires cutting the frame and maybe a bit of welding (search this site or check with your dealer). I purchased an RTV900 a few years ago with 3000+ hours on it with the same problem, and elected instead to just replace the bearings. As I recall they're part of the propeller shaft assembly, but even so I think is was less than $75 and I did the work myself. You should also check for play in the rear axle u-joints, as they also wear rapidly if not kept greased.

$6300 sounds like a fair price if the rest of the machine is in good shape and it includes the dump bed. Craig's List in most major cities is a good place to find used RTVs, and can be a useful reference for prices.

Good luck with your purchase/search, and welcome to TBN!
