No problems on the 2005's. On the 2003's there were some issues with one of the sensors, the programming, injectors, and the rear main seal. Those problems have all been fixed. I have an early 03 that I am trading on an 05 that I had no problems to speak of with.

International is correct. The problem in the 03 was the mirco processor which Ford used and it put too much fuel to the injectors so the ecess went into the oil. That problem has been corrected. The 6.0 liter is one **** of an engine. Before Ford starting putting it in their truck Int. had already been using it for about 2 years. As time goes along it is just going to get better.

First of all Dodge has exclusive rights to the cummins for the pickups through 2010. Second Ford is contracted with International through 2007 for the 6.0 and into 2012 for the new 6.4 that will be going into the new model coming out in 2006.

I don't think Cummins has an exclusive deal with Dodge. I don't know the deal between Ford and Navistar.

First off international did not cause the problem ,Ford did when they tryed to make the mirco processor so small. Ford was just trying to save a few bucks here and there and it back fired on them, They bought back about 3% of their trucks in 03 just to keep their loyal costumers, but they got it straighten out now. I have been driving Ford diesels for the last 15 years. At presnt I have a F-250 with the PSD. I would love to have Cummins, and like said Cummins will sell engines to any one.

I have one of the first production 6.0L's to roll off the line. Yes they have 'some' problems. They had difficulty with the engine power control management computer and still (and I include the 04 and 05 models) have not completely solved the problems. The engine was promised as having pilot (multi-fire) injection and producing 325 hp and 5xx ft-lb of torque. The 04 and 05 models don't have and don't produce. There has essentially been no fix. Those unfortunate enough to get a reprogrammed 03 or a stock 04 or 05 are behind the curve already. Additional problems included injectors which were damaged on factory installation and leaked fuel into the lubrication system. Ford's answer was to fix one injector at a time if the computer said it was faulty. If you had enough fuel in your oil, they might even replace the turbocharger, but unlikeley. They also have an oil leak from one or more of at least three sources. The 03's had leaks from starter mounts, oil dipstick connections, faulty machining areas on major joints in the block, and the infamous rear main seal leak. The 'rear main seal' leak, which actually comes from an adapter flange on the crankshaft and cannot be fixed without replacing the crankshaft, actually carried over to the 04 models despite Ford knowing of the problem. I have the 'rear main seal leak' which is currently just a wet spot on the bell housing. Other than that, mine has been pretty awesome. My dealer really sucked and Ford didn't help, so it'll definitely be my last ford (EVER). Other than the million or so problems, you just can't beat the room in the crew cab and the overall toughness of the chassis. I'd look real hard at the Dodge's. They're nice and the Cummins is bulletproof. Only weak point appears to be the transmission.
