Here's some shale. I have done some downhill mountain bike racing at Plattekille Mountain in NY, that's all it was....shale and pieces of shale.

Robbie how different is the forestry door? I do know the new Bobcat door has 3/4 inch lexan. The used RC I am looking at has a custom built forestry gaurd on it, I haven't seen it yet but sounds pretty cool.
What kind of grapple did you get? I am looking at a quick attach
Quick Claw
or
Eagle Talon

The Claw about $2750 delivered and the Eagle about $4300, what do you guys think? Both 72 inches wide.

Hey Ted and Mark

That's what i thought it was. A carbide should fair pretty well against it. I wouldn't go looking for rock but if my head does hit rock it just rounds the edge of the blade, once that happens the body (thick section) would start chipping at it and hopefully somewhere in there I would have realized I was on rock and backed off.

A stock ASV door in polycarbonate, similar to plexiglass just will not shatter. I don't think. I have had a good sized piece of concrete rocket up the window and gaulge(spell) the window but that's all. A forestry door is usually an additional 1/2" lexan window over the stock window with provisions to kick it out. I'm not exactly sure it they have heavier frames or not for I have never seen one in person. For 1200.00 bucks I will probably construct some sort of screen for the bottom half of the window and hopefully be able to do it in some sort of way I can still remove in an emergency. The bottom half of the window is where most debri hits if any. I am going to make a guard for over the back hood also. I would still like a forestry door just not in the budget right now. If I had only purchased a few months later, alot of items hit the market in those few months.

I bought a Bradco 72" grapple. very nice unit with excellent protection for the clamp cylinders. All the tines are 1/2" thick. I paid right at 3000.00 tax included. You can shop around and find good deals i was just pressed for time and I wanted to be sure fittings were correct. I had already planned on going to the dealership so I just picked it up will I was there. Best money I ever spent, I have used it on every job since. It's a giant hand for my 100. A million uses.

You would think changing attachments during a job wouldn't pay off but you can really clean up a site and pile up the debri and come back and grind one pile rather than chase material all over the woods. Has proven to be time saving.
