2008 JD 5303

Just got a quote of $16,400 on a new JD 5303(Base Unit). The list price on the JD web site shows $17,381. When I questioned him about the price, he said JD has raised their invoice price so they do not have as much room to discount as in the past. Has anyone got similar results or is this salesman just blowing smoke? I have called another dealership and I am awaiting their quote.

This has been noted in many threads that yes indeed, JD has a smaller spread between MSRP and dealer cost than they used to - to make MSRP look better for people comparing brands. I would also imagine that being an updated model may factor in. Have you also priced out 2006 and 2007 model 5303's and even 5205's?

The quote from the other dealer is $14,933. Quite a difference. I actually already have a 2006 5303 but really want the Sync-reverse transmission that is available with the newer model. I am going tomorrow to see how the new transmission works. I really like the 5303 but I just hate grinding the gears when shifting from 2nd to reverse.

I really can't see the logic in making a jump from a 2006 model to a 2008 model for just a synchro on what is still a manual shuttle. Now if you were going up to a hydroshuttle (aka "PowerReverser"), I could see that. The more I use my 5105 the more I wish I had something with a hydroshuttle (and a cab, but that's another story). Unfortunately to stay green you would need a 5325 which is some serious cash. However, you might want to look at some other colors if you are doing enough reversing that the non-synchro setup is being a problem.

Yes, I agree. I am not sure it is worth trading just to get the Sync-Reverse feature. The 2006 5303 does everything I need. I guess we all have just one more feature that we wish our tractor had. If I had unlimited funds, I would definitely upgrade to the 5325.

Unless you get a 5525 MFWD cab with everything... then I'm not sure there are any features it doesn't have!
