I was using my tractor any heard a grinding noise, got off and found gear oil on left front tire was discing in 4wd, noticed outer hub assembly was damaged with the short shft that attaches to the tire assembly hanging out. Pulled it all apart and went to wallace tractor. Rick is a great guy and took care of me. Really went above and beyond. Got me everything I needed from the aluminium outer housing to the snub shaft.
So I put everything together, filled the resevour with gear oil and spun the tires, didn't sound any louder than other side. Started driving it and it ran fine. Put it in 4wd and got about a 1/4 mile and saw gear oil on left front again. Same issue cracked the outer housing again. Only thing I can think of is that the bearing that the housing rides in must have wear and is causing the gear to jump. I am off tomorrow and plan on taking it apart and placing the shaft back in the slow without the outer housing. Dealer hasn't seen another issue like mine, was wondering if anyone else has. The ring gear looks in good shape.
