I was checking out JDs website and came across something interesting i was looking at ratings on my 200cx loader on my 2320 JD.. and at max height at pivot it can hold 899lbs.. then i looked at the same loader with a 2720 with more GMP flow for the hydrulics and it can only hold 800lbs at max height at pivot.. there are noticable changes in the specs in the 2320 to the 2720 I was thinking of upgrading to the 2720 just for ***** and giggles, but if It wont hold the same amount of weight with the loader Im not.. I will post the links to the pages can someone please help me on this issue I might be reading wrong.. THanks

THe 2520 is also the same as the 2720 just to point that out..

fyi - the links provided don't work, but I looked it up anyway. Looks like you do lose 100lbs with the same bucket - both are ratings based on the 53" bucket. My guess is that with lower flow you get more power on the 2320 and that the pump used on the 2320, since it powers everything, is heavier duty. They use two separate pumps on the 2520 and 2720 which gives more speed due to higher flow, but must be weaker pumps - just like low gear vs high gear.

the PSI is the same on all 3 tractors according to the specs

There are two possibilities:

1. There are errors in one of the spec tables (*gasp*!)

2. There are geometry issues at play. As an example, the reach on the 2320 is 48.2" while the 2720 is 50.1". That extra 2" pushes the max load farther from the center of mass and makes the weight seem a bit heavier.

Do geometry issues matter in the real world? My guess is that the numbers are all calculated and that they're so conservative that there really is no appreciable difference. However, is 200CX strength why you want to upgrade? The flow rate is much higher so the speed of the loader has increased significantly and you'll be less likely to bog down the engine at max capacity, but the PSI of both tractors is the same so there won't be much of a difference in the total lifting ability available.

you'll be less likely to bog down the engine at max capacity

The only way that would be true is with a lower relief pressure, thats unlikley. The only thing that your buying between those two models is speed, thats it. Outside of the geometry changes the capacity will be the same if the PSI is the same. Simple. This really underscores why its pretty stupid that they use the 200CX loader on so many tractors. You won't find any other manufacturer using the same loader on a subcompact and three smallframe compacts. Its simply not optimized for the bigger tractors.

well I would like to get something a little bigger and have more capibilitys for the loader.. I was first thinking of a New Holland TC31DA or TC34DA then i looked at the Deere and the 3520 seems to be a big tractor compared to the New hollands.. Then i was wondering about the loader issue with the 2320 able to hold more then the other two.. but I do belive it is clearlys stated that the 2720's loader is 2" ahead compared to the 2320.. so Im guessing that why it wont lift as much.. So im not sure what im gonna do if the 2720 or 2520 aint going to help me any with the loader that would just be a waist of time..

Hiya,

Don't put too much stock into the published specs from Deere, they seem to vary depending which catalog or page your reading.

I can tell you that my 2520 with a 200cx lifts more in the real world than any of the specs say. I have a set of Horst forks and can lift a pallet of 22, 50Lb bags of water softener salt. Is it at the loader limit, yep, sure is. Tractor knows it's running at the limit. It's slow to raise and very quick to drop. Is it like the loader on the Case 580, not even close. That could lift the pallet and my 2520 and still have plenty left.

You sound like you are talking yourself into a larger machine. Remember, none of the farm loaders compare to true construction loaders. If you want a very powerful loader, look at a small articulated wheel loader or a intermediate TLB like the Case. They aren't cheap, they are a limited use tool and they are a bear to transport to a job site. If your 2320 meets your needs 90% of the time, your just about right on with your equipment sizing. Save your cash and rent for the 10%.

My 2 cents,

Tom

with respect to specs, this is sorta interesting, I'd printed out specs for the 200CX on a 2520 a year or so ago before I bought my 2520. I looked at the online specs again a few months ago and the max capacities listed now are lower than they were a year ago for the same tractor/loader combo. Not sure why they changed them. I don't have the numbers any more (I tossed the print out) but I'm 100% sure there was a difference.
