What rpm on the dash to get 540 at the PTO. And what does this dash mean with the 2 540 PTO ranges?
It has a lever for 540 and down is 780 rpm.

Use the lever at 780 to get 540 at the pto in the 540E rpm range. With the lever set at 540 you will need to run the higher rpm range to get 540 at the pto. The 540E is economy mode.

So are you saying that with the lever in 780 will still get 540 at the PTO in the 540E range on dash?
Want to power a wood chipper .

Correct. That's how I run my brush hog most of the time. Saves a lot of fuel.

Depends on how big the brush is that you are chipping. You can always give it a try. If it bogs tractor down too much you may want to run straight 540. The 540E range is nice for light duty work like pulling a finish mower or light bush-hogging, but if it's going to get a work-out, you should really use 540. IMO there is more damage done to a small diesel engine by bogging it down than by setting it at a comfortable RPM for 540 PTO.

Well I run the chipper in 540E mode for the chipper today . Seemed to work the same only not as loud on the ears from the Diesel screaming at 1700 versus 2400 .
Thanks for the info Huffy2404

No problem. Like jcg said, as long as you aren't bogging down the engine you'll be fine.
