I just picked up a 2010, F250 4x4 CC king ranch (I think it has bigger tires than my lariat F350) with 6.4 and short bed.

I noticed it only has a 2" Class IV receiver rated at 12500. I need it to occasionally pull a 12,600 lb chipper and 13k rated trailer.

My question is I've seen some Class V hitches that say they will fit the F250. My concern is will the F250 handle the Class V and that weight trailer? I have an '08 F350 with class V 2.5" and didn't even notice that the 2010 F250 had only a 2" class IV. If this truck can handle a Class V hitch, will the 20" spare tire and ranch hand style rear bumper be a problem?

It can pull the weight but its all going to come down to tongue weight and the limits of the 20" tires.

I have a srw 2008 f350 crew cab and upgraded the hitch to a 2.5", can't remember the brand off hand. I pull a 14k dump trailer and it handles fine. I think the aftermarket 2.5" hitch is rated for 1800 lbs of tongue weight. I have 18" tires and the v10.

Ford dealer told me today that they could install the the Class V for $599 which I thought was reasonable and then it's done through the dealer. Evidently, the truck can handle it. My father in law's F250 SRW, 2011, is rated at 14 or 15k bumper pull.

Its a easy swap. I can get the hitch for about $300 and swap it out in 15 minutes.

Make sure you buy a 2.5" receiver and ball with load ratings to match.

Skip TSC. I get ball mounts at my camper dealer rated at 25,000#, same for the balls.

Here is a 15K hitch for $215 that fits your truck. They should be able to do a hitch in less than a hour.

I have installed Curt hitches before. I think they are nice than a Reese or Valley.
