i have a 2011 chevy 3500hd reg cab 4x4 6.0l 4.11 4x4 rated at 10700 i have pulled 13k it did fine on the flat on the hills i wouldnt pass a rig i avg loaded 9mpg pulling my 7040sud fel loaded tires cast centers with my tractor i know its back there unloaded 12mpg like others have said buy a diesel if you dont want to go slow over the hills as much as i tow i dont worry about a few hills

I have a 2012 2500HD, extended cab, 6.0L, six speed auto, 4x4, with 3.73 gears. Unloaded mileage is about 13 around town and 15 on the highway. Mileage seems like "gallons per mile" while towing. The 3.73's reduce max towing to 9900 lbs in RC configuration and 9500 lbs for my EC. I've had about 9k strapped to it and it handled the weight fine, but I can see regular towing being tiresome with the 6L gas engine. If I towed regularly, I'd go with the Duramax.

Its not a bad setup after 08 with the new chassis and 6 speed.

I am pulling 9,800# today with my 08 Nissan Titan. So far 8.79 mpg for comparison. Its a 800 mile trip so we will have to se what the average is.

Overall I got 8.35 mpg. On the way down I was about 500# heavier and ran about 75 mph. On the way home I ran right at 70.
