Sorry if this is located somewhere in another post, but I'm tired of searching and digging for something I can't seem to find. I would like to know what a 2011 Chevy 1500, Crew Cab 4x4, with 5.3 motor, 3.42 gears, and tow package is rated to tow.

Also, if anyone knows what the tow max package with the 6.2 motor gets for gas mileage, I'd appreciate that too.

THANKS,
J.L

Do some research on GM hitch ratings and failures, especially with a weight distributing hitch. More importantly, check the hitch itself for ratings. There are numerous reports on the web regarding hitch failures with the factory hitch, especially when using a WDH. It appears the different forces involved with a WDH do not work well with the factory hitch. In addition, if memory serves me, the factory hitch isn't necessarily rated as high as the truck, or the WDH rating is grossly larger than the regular rating, well beyond what is normal for a typical aftermarket hitch. Hopefully GM has corrected all that.

I have 9,500# in my book. Only shows 2010 but I would bet its the same.

If memory serves, yours is around 6800# give or take.

A similar 6.2 with the HD tow is around 9100# and the 6.2 max tow is somewhere around 10,500#

9500 for the truck you asked about. Exactly the same setup as my 2011..

You're probably thinking of the tow rating of a 5.3 3.42 axle with the old 4L60 auto, as that sounds about right. Dad has a 07 5.3 w/ 3.73 and it's only rated somewhere around 8K. That combo with the new 6 speeds is in the 9.5K range.

FWIW, unless you get the Max Tow package, the 6.2 is actually rated ~100 lbs less than the 5.3.

Also, the 3.08 gear with the new tranny and 5.3L give you about 6,500# tow rating.
