Kubota L5740HSTC-3, Toro Z153, GMC Topkick w/Altec LRIII, Vermeer BC1250 Turbo, Rayco RG1620, too many trailers
I tried to shift my tractor out of 4wd after spreading some dolomite. I put gentle pressure on the lever and turned slowly to relieve the pressure on the drivetrain. The lever came up fully, but the front wheels are still engaged. The lever does nothing and moves with very little resistance. Any ideas?

I've never seen one but you could try moving the tractor forward and back a little bit and moving your lever. It sounds like SOMETHING is stuck or hung up.

It sounds like the linkage isn't really connected. Have you inspected it?

Check the linkage on the transmission case. Sounds to me like the pin and cotter came out. 4wd actuation is 100% mechanical. There should always be resistance on the lever as it has to disengage the shift fork to take the gear set out of mesh.

Hint, what I do to get out of FWA is lift the front wheels with the loader bucket a tad and then shift it out. Removing the rolling stress allows easy disengagement.

It is still attached and moving the pin that goes into the side of the transmission just above the mid pto

Dealer time unless you are very mechanically adept. It will have to be split. Sounds like a broken shift fork.

The last tractor I split was a 1955 TO-35. I'm pretty mechanical, but know my limitations. I pulled the mid PTO off to see what I could see. It's pretty tight, but I did see the inner portion of the lever moving while my buddy actuated it. Problem is, I couldn't see what, if anything it was moving.

Are there any parts in the mid pto case or inside the main case that you can feel? I would imagine that there would be a piece of the fork in the case or at least the actuator.

You might want to get a WSM. Kubotabooks.com will have the WSM online for your tractor. The WSM will detail the entire mechanism for you.

No parts that I saw or felt. The fluid (6ish gallons) was clean with no metal. Thanks for the recommendation on the manual site. I'll check it out in the morning. I'd feel a lot more confident with an actual service manual.
