Hi! from Lone Hill America ,
sure would appreciate any help you guys can give me , just completed first service on the tractor and had some questions about fluid level and type.
We went with Mobil Del-Vac 1300 15w40 for engine and got scared for transmission/hydraulic and went back to Mahindra for that.
Wow you can break the bank just trying to take care of stuff kaint ya!
Main question is about transmission oil level , should i check it with engine running or not ? should dipstick be screwed in or on top? this tractor is equipped
with a loader and and the 3 point , should i raise it or lower it to check level ?
do you guys think the Del-Vac is ok ?

thanks chan

I use the universal hydraulic fluid from Tractor Supply

Traveller® Universal Tractor Trans/Hydraulic Fluid, 5 gal. - 0806391 | Tractor Supply Company

It satisfies the Deere 303 spec, which makes it OK for my Mahindra 5525. My dealer says that the larger Mahindra tractors are not that picky about the hydraulic fluid so this stuff or the stuff at Walmart works fine.

I check the hydraulic level with the engine off, tractor is cold, 3pt and FEL in down position, dipstick screwed in all the way. I wiggle the control sticks on the FEL and rear remote valves to release the pressure in the hydraulic lines.

I don't like the rod-type dipstick on my 5525--rod is dark grey color and the fact that the marks for FULL and ADD OIL are only about 1/4" apart on the stick. It's really hard to get a good reading on that stick. I find that the best way to do this is to unscrew the dipstick and pull it out of the hole vertically. Then tilt it horizontal and run your index finger under the rod from the middle of the rod towards the end to locate the oil level. Just to be safe, I check the motor oil and hyd oil levels before starting the tractor. I lose hyd oil out of the the quick disconnects on the triple rear remotes constantly. Haven't found a QD that doesn't start leaking eventually.

Del-Vac? Sounds OK to me. I use 15W40 dino oil in the 5525 from Walmart (usually Delo).

Hope this helps. Good luck.

hey thanks for the help ! GOOD LOOKIN Dog you got here , tractor supply here dropped dead about 15years ago and we have been using available stuff since , the only available farm store i have is an outfit called Orcheilin and when you ask the 17 year old girl behind the counter about a API:GL4 lube you will get a funny look. I am with you on dipstick , i been working on on tractor/trailer units for 30 years and have been farming the same spot of ground since 1965 and just love a fill plug level. i know where i am at with this , you can check with your finger !
thanks for your help , chan

poplar bluff, mo? nice - I'm more or less a neighbor to you - up in Chester, IL - right across from Perryville.

I thought there were a couple of Bucheit's down around your part of the woods - perhaps not. Good place to get just about everything you need - from fluids to parts for your cutters, new pins, made hoses, etc..

Including a nice selection of spinner nobs - first purchase I had to make - a nice red one to match the tractor
