Well, it's still ugly only now as a more protruding grill like the GM's.

It's nice to see they are finally catching up to the Dodge and GM by adding a 6-speed transmission and possibly bumping up the HP in the sub-par V8 5.4l. Although dropping the V10 is a bad idea in my opinion. Also nice to see them follow Dodge's lead and add a live PTO to the transmission for accessories like dump hydraulics, plus finally going to 2 spark plugs per cylinder like the HEMI will aid in smoothness, throttle response and fuel mileage. It will probably be a decent truck as long as they keep adding the features the Dodge and GM have already offered for years...:D

Personally I still think the Dodge HD trucks are the best looking. I just want the Cummins diesel, Aisin transmission and integrated exhaust brake on a quad cab 8ft bed truck.

You are right about the Dodge being the best looking but its still a Dodge. They will never catch up to Ford on all the comfort features and items like the brake controller, GN hitch, ect. Its really too bad. No one has anything bad to say about the Cummins. The complaints are usually centered around the package its wrapped in.

You mean this Integrated Brake Controller on the Dodge Ram HD trucks? You know, the one that reads out the display on the dash so you are not looking down at the ashtray to see it.

"Comfort features" huh? So does the Ford have power adjustable pedals, one-touch sunroof, power retractable running boards, factory installed remote start or a voice activated touch screen computer with Garmin navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, Wi-Fi access, and Sirius satellite radio?

Gooseneck hitch as a factory accessory, yeah it's got that too!

Dodge - 2009 Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 - Capability - Towing and Payload

It's too bad Ford doesn't have a Trailer Sway Control option like the Dodge Ram since I typically see those little F-150's with a 26ft travel trailer wagging it's tail like a dog. :D

It's also too bad Ford can't make a decent drivetrain to put in their "wonderful" trucks...

I would like to have that on my Jeep.... Not sure what crazy wheeling you can do with a Crew Cab pickup...

I wish Ford would give up on the dummie guages and give us real ones so we know the numbers.....

Only time will tell how the new engines will shake out. By 2012 I should have well over 150K on my truck and be ready for a new one.

That is an awesome display. I would be willing to bet those specific gauges are for the Power Wagon which is an off-road beast.
Good news for rock crawlers and wheelers: The Hemi-powered Power Wagon off-road version of the Ram also continues next year. It's the only Ram HD with a 4.56 rear axle and locking front and rear differentials.

I stand corrected on the hitch. Looks like they are using a B&W. Thats a very good hitch. Had one on my 7.3 Power Stroke.

As for the brake controller they are catching up. Its just in the the wrong spot. Brake controllers should be mounted and controlled with the right hand.

Anyway, why don't you start a Dodge Thread so you can brag on them over there. This was a review of the Ford, not a comparison.

As for the HEMI, its nothing to brag about in a truck. Great engine in a hot rod car but not a stump pulling truck. I was really disappointed in mine in a my 2500. I am now much more educated in truck engines and know what too look for. The motor ran great and I had zero problems with the motor but Dodge would have been much better off revamping the 360 or making a purpose built truck motor with some low end torque like the gas offerings from GM and Ford.

:rolleyes: Its the 2011 Superduty dash......;)

I don't think of too many long wheel based vehicles as offroad beasts. Where I like to go, they would never fit, let alone turn around.;)

If you notice in the picture, as soon as this "beast" drives over the rock his drivers side front tire is on, it will high center on the frame. But don't get me wrong, they do make great mall crawlers!

I like everything about it except for the changes in the F-450. I wish they had kept the 19.5" wheels. Smaller wheels equal smaller brakes. I don't have a problem with the top speed of my '08 F-450, the speed limit on the Interstate is 70, don't have any desire to drive a 9,000# truck at 90mph.

Yes ford has all of that except for the retractable running boards. A lot of it Ford has had for a while. My 2003 even had power adjustable pedals.

I drove and liked the old Dodge V10. It did sound kinda funny though, after being used to V8's.

My thing with the HEMI is different. I am disappointed at Chrysler for using the name the way they have. The original 426 Hemi was a special engine. Limited offering. Made to race. It was really something. Todays Hemi's are not measured in Cubic Inches. They are a standard run of the mill motor. Nice motor, but they have primarily used the "Hemi" moniker to market the motor. It has no where near the impact as the original, or the 413 and 426 Max Wedges.

The same goes for the RAM labeled as a Daytona, with a funky little spoiler on the bed and some sticker. And the Charger with Daytona on the side. The Charger 500's, the Daytona's, and the Superbirds were really something, not just stickers.

It is interesting that you note making a purpose built truck motor. One of the fastest cars in the early 70's, n Australia, is a 6 cylinder HEMI Valiant Charger. The motor was designed up here, as a truck motor to replace the Slant-6 as an offering. The Aussies tuned it a bit, and had a 300hp triple Weber induced road race/rallye car.

The tilt gauges and such are cute gimmicks. In all my years in Jeeps, I had my eye on the trail.

I have had full size trucks in places that would surprise many. But, I grew up in a Jeep, knew to go slow and take my time. Also made a lot of15, 20, and 25 point turns :D

Your right. Its nothing more than a toy. On a serious trail one would never be able to watch what they are doing and drive.

I have never seen a trail worthy Crew Cab 3/4 or one ton pickup. Most of the trucks we "find" offroad are stuck beyond belief. They think they can go through anything, or think they can fit. This feature is another selling point to people who want the look, IMHO.

I have had my previous Ford F250's long bed xcab, and my current Dodge 2500 long bed xcab out wheelin, hunting. Take them a lot of places.

I have also got them stuck... It is a LOT easier to get a Jeep unstuck, especially if it is on the frame in snow, than it is to dig out a 22' long pickup

For real 4 wheelin, it is hard to beat an old Flat fender GPW, MB, CJ2, CJ3, of the old short fender CJ5's.

I too take my trucks hunting and drive them offroad. But I never take them offroading. Even my 05 F250 that had a 6" lift and 37's could not go where my jeep goes on less lift and smaller tires.

Cool! When I was a little kid, my Dad got a '42 Ford GPW. Other friends had CJ2A's, and CJ-3B tall hood flat fenders. Then we got a '70 CJ5. My Dad sold that, then I bought it and had it for 15 years or so. Been Jeepless for a while though...

Always had the most fun rock crawling. We're not far from Rubicon, Barret lake ect.

I make a promise to all the members here, that when I win the lottery (I mean big $$$) I'll buy all three brand of trucks, equaly equipped, and give a true and honest review.

I like them all. It doesn't hurt that I think the current domestic truck offering is the best featured trucks and the best looking trucks ever. Everyone pick their 70's, 80's or 90's model of their brand and do a mental side-by-side comparision. Beside the technically challenging feat of repairing a modern rig and the occasional QC issues, the choices today are far superior.

You are right about that. And sometimes it comes down to what you do and how it fits you. One thing I did not realize when I bough my 05 Dmax was how much smaller it was then my 04 Power Stroke and my 03 Ram 2500. The other thing is where do you drive. My Dmax rode the best but had more limitations then the others when I went into the muck. If you are a guy who only hauls thing in the bed one truck may shine. If you are a guy pushing snow the other may shine. I can honestly say they all had strong points. Loved the looks of my Dodge. Dmax rode best. Ford tows the best.

My college roommate did just this about 4-5 years ago with his construction company. They do road work. Mainly government contracts and airport revamps. Anyway they needed 36 new trucks so they got 12 of each. All biggest gas engine, all 3/4 tons SRW with 4x4 and auto's.
