After the ceremonial start in Anchorage yesterday 66 teams will be departing Willow this morning for Yentna Station and Skwentna - looks like plenty of snow this year and they are going to be running the Happy River Steps this year too which should be plenty interesting....gotta be rooting for John Baker to repeat this year, I lived in Kotzebue and worked for Bakers family as an A and P years ago so he's my guy again this year...an incredible race and I'm looking forward to seeing what develops over this years 975 mile course....Rick

Will any of the race be televised? Several yrs ago they had a series that followed the teams, was really interesting. Tough men and women and amazing dogs.

Hey Oleozz, I'm trying to find out if any of it will be broadcast this year. I certainly hope so but it seems these days the powers that be would rather broadcast such exciting "sporting" events such as say, poker or perhaps golf.......If I find anything out I'll post it here....Rick

nbc used to broadcast some of the iditarod but stopped because of the cruelty to the sled dogs. Total BS brought on by PETA and others.

That effin kills me, "cruelty to the sled dogs". Pure, unadulterated B.S. Those are some of the best cared for animals on the face of the planet, the dogs absolutely LOVE what they do, the mushers put the dogs welfare far ahead of their own......PETA.........what a bunch of ignorant clowns
