I noticed it first back in the winter but though it was cold related. It's happening more frequently. The tach/rpm needle will stick or remain on 0 at start up. The dash works fine other than that, hours meter works, lights function. But if I tap my knuckles on glass/plastic lens it will come "on" and work fine. Any one else have this problem? I have not had the dash off, looks like a pain to remove. I keep mothballs on the dash to help with mice. It stays parked inside and has not been rained on but it does get washed regular. Moisture may be an issue. Though of replacing the sensor but it may be the needle itself. Thanks in advance to those who respond with helpful advice or experience.

The sticking may be mechanical, perhaps moisture related. With the advent of all these electrical instruments it could also be corrosion on a connector - perhaps even the connector on the back of the unit. Of course since tapping sometimes fixes the issue it could even be a loose connector.

My 2011 5055e tach will do the same thing maybe once a year. I can't give you a reason why it happens.
The dash does fog up if it gets rained on, but that doesn't happen often as the machine is stored undercover.
I reported this issue to my dealer when the machine was new. No help there.
