I just bought a 2010 used over the summer. The power steering cooler is integrated into the AC evaporator and are prone to leak. If you start leaking power steering fluid and can't find wear it is going look on the upper left hand side of the evaporator coil if standing in front of the vehicle. The proper fix is pretty spendy because the AC lines have to be disconnected and freon refilled. Or you can do like some and mount an aftermarket cooler or I just looped the lines around and bypassed it all together.

Otherwise it is a fantastic vehicle.

We've put 100k on our '08 with nothing more the routine maintenance. We also did not purchase new, so do not know the prior history.

It gets 20-22 mpg highway all day long and about 15 city, not bad for this amount of capacity.

My last 3 daily drivers have been Expeditions. A 2005 that I put 150k basically trouble free miles on, then a 2013 that I put 50k on, now a 2015 Platinum that has 24k. As mentioned, the early plug issue was fixed long ago. While there's no comparison between the 5.4 3v motor and the 3.5 Ecoboost in the 2015+ Expedition, it's a tried and true performer and should last a long time and serve you well. Here's my old 2013 bringing home a new 14' Sure Trac 14k dump trailer and BX25D last year.

Easiest way to tell if your '08 3V 5.4L has the "good" or "bad" plugs is to look at the spark plug boots.

Brown = "Good" long thread plugs on the later build engines
Black = "Bad" short thread plugs on the early troublesome engines

How do I know? Lots of research and ours has brown boots and long thread plugs.... by ONE DAY of engine build! WHEW!!!!
