New Holland Boomer 33
2014 New Holland Boomer 33. Battery at 12.8 volts and not old and on charger. Got the tractor up on the trailer no issues. Brought it home 250 miles then started to tack apart the DEF system to clean it. Reconnected everything (except the hood). PTO is in off position.

Now this.

Starter spins, makes noise but the tractor will not turn over. I highly doubt the engine is seized as it made it to the trailer with no issue and it was running in 30 second bursts. I've never really dealt with starters before so perhaps it's something in the starter? If it was some kind of safety switch I doubt it would spin up like that on the starter.

Any help or ideas would be awesome.

bendix is not coming out to engage flywheel. either a voltage issue, or bendix is stuck

I really don't think it's a voltage issue.
Appears bendix is part of the starter and regardles I'm going to have to take starter out, eh?

short of a doing a voltage drop test at the starter battery voltage means all of nothing to me, but if its not that, then yes the starter has to come out to see what's going on. there is no safety interlock issue if the starter is spinning.

Thanks I appreciate it LittleBill, I guess I'll start there.

Can you tap the starter while it is spinning, maybe it just needs some encouragement. In the end if that works you'll still want to have it looked at, maybe it can be rebuilt?

While turning the key to start tap that starter with a hammer.

The starter may not be spooling up quick enough for the bendix to be driven out. Low amperage would do that. Check all battery connections on both ends of the cables and look for corrosion. A bad connection that would limit amps would not be noticed with only the volt test.

a voltage drop test will easy show amp limitation, it's literally the point of it.

Not if the person doesn't know where to attach the meter. If the meter is attached to the battery posts and the limitation is a bad cable, the meter will continue to mostly read just the battery voltage.
