It's tough, that's for sure.........60% of the people realize that the dealer has to make a profit to stay in business and they are helping to make sure the dealer will be there when they need them by not haggling too much over a fair price while the other 40% want something for nothing. 9 times outta 10 that guy who refused to pay $100 more for a unit to a local dealer and instead drove 100 miles out of the way to save that money will be the one complaining that his local dealer went out of business. It's sad, but true.......sometimes you just gotta bite your lip and smile. You just gotta learn to deal with it in the nicest manner possible.

I don't think most people would argue over $100.00, I sure wouldn't. But $3,000.00 is a different story. If a dealer has to make $3,000.00 (almost 20 percent) over and ABOVE the other dealers profit (on the same exact vehicle) when he is 10 minutes from my home and the tractor is sitting there (not a special order).. that is not making a profit, that is grand theft without a gun.

The dealer I mentioned came back to me after I told him he was trying to rip me off.. with the excuse that he magically found a way to lower his price to just a bit over $18,000.00 because he now wanted to unload the inventory. In the mean time I had quite a few offers from honest dealers (here) to sell me the same tractor at a very fair price.

To be honest I wouldn't buy a tractor from my local dealer now no matter what he offered to sell it for. Call me stubborn if you like, but now there is NO trust in this dealer and never would be in the future.

Chris, I totally agree with you but you wouldln't believe the small dollar amounts that people will go to another dealer farther away for.

Chris----one thing to remember "all dealers do not get the same pricing" the manufactures change discount programs on the fly and it is almost impossible to keep up with. If you have several pieces of inventory quoted on a deal one may go down one may stay the same and one may go up. It is a game that the manufactures play to balance inventory and market share in every location. Sometime volume plays a large part sometime not sometimes distressed inventory plays a part sometimes not----kind of like the weather wait a few days and every thing changes. It is hard to keep up with these things if you are running a small low overhead dealership and are trying to give each customer personal service. Sometimes you are afraid to quote a price until you have checked and double checked the programs and your Territory Man. We have learned to "get it in writing" before we quote because things change daily. Just my .02----you would think that the manufacturer would see how much confustion this causes and distrust of dealer and web pricing.
