Hi all. I'm working through the 200-hour maintenance list for my 2015HST and got stuck on the clutch pedal adjustment-- the maximum pedal movement is a little off, so I thought I would adjust to spec, but ran right into "loosen the lock nut", which seems to be impossible. I remember this sort of thing from when I was younger and wrenched a lot: you'd read "remove the 4 bolts" and sometimes it might as well say "sprout wings and fly away" since it just couldn't be done.
To adjust the clutch pedal maximum movement, you need to loosen the locknut and adjust the stop bolt. Sounds easy, but the stop bolt actually has a plate welded to it that holds the clip used to hold the clutch pedal down for storage (so the clutch plates aren't in contact); it's the plate that the pedal stops at, not the bolt-end. The plate's welded to the bolt and is in the way so you can't use a deep socket or any sort of closed box wrench (like a deep offset) to get at the locknut, which means either open-ended wrench or crowfoot, but there's no room to get either one onto the locknut, let alone turn it.
Are you supposed to remove the bodywork that's in the way? With that panel gone it would be easy, but it's not at all clear how to get it off-- assuming that's the way to go. The Operator's Manual is useless here: "Loosen the lock nut" it says. Aargh. It's not far out of spec, so I'm tempted to just leave it alone.
Any suggestions? Am I missing something?
