My question is...

I'm aware of the general 1 foot-per-5 horsepower rule for rear implements. My 2015 gear handles a 4 foot brush cutter, and a 54 inch 3 point snowblower very well. But what about box-blades? Here's my dilemma. The tractor with the R-4 tires is almost 54 inches wide, so obviously a 4 foot blade won't cover the wheel track.
I was thinking that since this tractor is as big, and as heavy (or heavier) than many 25-26 HP tractors, and a box-blade is not dependant on PTO HP, it should be able to handle the 5 footer. I wouldn't much care if I had to drop down a gear and go a little slower. So am I right, or terribly mistaken???? (that's the question)
I welcome all opinions. Thanks

I suspect you would be fine w/ a 54" box blade. I have previously used a 48" box blade with a SCUT, and the 2015 is definitely a lot more tractor than any sub compact.

I now have a JD 2520 and am planning to trade up in box blade size from 48 to 54 myself. Size wise, the 2015 is about the same size/weight as a 2520.

Good luck.

I appreciate the quick reply, but it leaves me with another question. Who makes a 54 inch box blade? I've only seen 4 or 5 footers!

Your width is almost 54" wide so usually you would use an implement that covers your tracks. A 60" wide box blade would only be 3" wider on each side so I don't see a problem. My 2615 is 5' wide and most implements I have are 5'. I could easily use 6 - 7' wide items such as back blade, rake, etc.

driver444,

My primary work tractor is a Mahindra 2015 4WD with filled R4 tires and an FEL.

It works a 60-inch King Kutter box blade with ease in our clay and rocks on the side of a mountain. I have no problem pulling a box blade full of gravel up the very steep part of my driveway.

I do a lot of work with a 6-foot King Kutter rear blade. I use it for leaves, snow (up to about 18-inches -- that's all we've had since I got it), and gravel.

These sizes seem to be perfect for the 2015.

Good luck,
Knute

James,
I too have a 2015 (hst) and have been bantering this very same question about with the local dealer. I would like to get the 60" box scraper as well. I have been advised that the 54" unit would be better suited to the tractor but that with some care 60" unit could be used as long as I didn't try to fill it to capacity & drag it a long ways. I am more interested in making precision cuts up against structures, patios, pool deck etc. than dragging large amounts of dirt around. The wider 60" would seem to keep my wheels from interfering with the precision cuts.
Sounds like Knute has demonstrated the ability of the 2015 to handle the capacity of the 60" implement. Thanks for the input, Knute.
Looking forward to more input from all you 2015 owners. :)

That's all good advice.

I forgot to mention I had a loader and filled tires. That's gotta make a huge difference, right?

I use a 60 inch box blade on my 2015 hydro with fel and have used it up and down hills making roads, pulling and pushing gravel and in my blacktop driveway moving snow and only time I needed more power was when I hooked it on a root, it just spins. with your filled tires , you won't have any trouble with normal to hard use.. I have a 2015 with R4's and a Rhino 48" box blade. I've never measured the outside width of the tires but the 48" box blade extends past the tires on both sides. You've got me curious now, I'm going to have to go measure things up.

IMO, the 48" box blade is correctly sized for the tractor. With the scarifiers all the way down in rocky soil, the tractor is working hard. I also use a 48" rotary cutter and a 54" snowblower, and I agree with other owners that these are correctly sized for the tractor. A 2015 might handle a 60" box blade just fine in many situations, but you might find it a little too much at times.
