I have a Mahindra 1538 HST tractor that I bought new.
I started noticing it was popping out of 4wd. I took it to the dealer and found that the Shifter arm was bent and the tab mangled (See attached pics). They said it wasn't installed right at the factory. Months later the part was still not available and Mahindra could give no date when it would be available. So I took it to a machine shop and had them repair the tab and straighten the arm. The tractor worked fine for a few months until it popped out of 4wd and wouldn't engage.
I took it back to the dealer and this time the problem was that the shifter came out of the groove that the tab fits into to slide the gears into 4WD.
I think there is a bigger issue than the shifter and don't want to just keep replacing the shifter. I can't find a tech support or factory number to call.
Has anyone had this issue?
Any ideas what could cause it?
The arm on that thing is pretty thick steel and I have a hard time believing that just shifting from 4wd to 2wd would do that much damage.
I've asked the mechanic to look deeper and see if there is another issue lurking somewhere.
Thank you -
