Hey folks,

Ive got a 2538 HST with 62 hrs on it. So far its been great until today:(. I was working with it for about 2 hours straight and turned it off to grab lunch. I filled it with fuel and left.

When I came back and tried turning it on it did nothing at all. I pressed the brake, key went counter clockwise for glow, and then tried to start it. No glow, no start, no nothing.

The only i can get it to do is when i remove my foot off the brake and turn the key it gives me a check error and a faint oil pressure light as well as a faint water in the fuel line error.

ive checked fuses under the steering wheel and at the front of the engine. Battery reads 12v. Ive also bypassed the brake switch.

Ive yet to check the starter fuse. im not sure if there even is one...?

Any help would be appreciated 10x.

Thanks!

The basics would be the safety “lock out” stuff.

Butt in seat, PTO disengaged (the lever can get bumped when you got off tractor....ask me how I know), clutch pressed in/down.

It’s interesting that it ran fine and now won’t start. That’s what leads me to start with what’s above. I guess another easy one would be the cable and wires going to the starter.

Beyond that hopefully someone with that machine will chime in. Someone else just went through this. Spent hours and hours with the dealer etc and found the PTO or something similar had locked it out. Try and find that post- I think it was 3-4 weeks ago.

This seems to be a recurring problem.. The EASIEST WAY to find it is>
HOLD the key in the starting position & start wiggling gear shifter knobs.. PTO.. ect..
Don't worry about the glow plugs at this point.. we're just trying to get the starter engaged..
& as Mr. Neumann says> butt in seat.. try bouncing up & down in it.. those "seat present" switches get outta line & corrode sometimes..
Good luck & let us know something..

Check your battery clamps. The originals are notorious for corroding and when they do you won't get enough voltage or current to start it. Since you said your indicator lamps are dim when you turn the key on it sounds like the clamp could be your problem. If it was a safety lockout all of the lights would be illuminated as normal.

And if it is your clamp, when you replace it make sure to grease them and the battery posts to prevent corrosion.

+1w/ TractorNH... your not getting enough current. Now pop off the battery vent caps and make sure the electrolyte level is correct. (did mine the other day) Then make sure the the clamps are CLEAN.

Gotta put my money on the battery circuit as well. Just because the battery has 12v doesnt mean its gonna have enough amps/current to do anything. I've had battery problems with my Mahindra as well and only just over 100hrs on mine.

Thought I’d share my weekend issue with my 2538 hst cab. Has 165 hours and bought it new a little over 2 years ago. Had been mowing @ 3 hours and had stopped tractor several times to get water, etc . Had been running at pto speed for at least an hour. Throttled down to cut off pto and tractor died. Nothing but red check light on dash. After looking rest of afternoon for interlock problems etc. I checked battery voltage was 12.4 volts. Put charger on battery on start setting and finally got tractor to click the starter. Pulled out battery had it tested and had a dead cell. So long story short before wasting a lot of time looking for interlock issues when absolutely nothing works. Made sure 1. Your battery hasn’t gone bad or as stated in previous post your battery cables are clean and tight.
