Hello everyone,

I have 4710 Massey I can't get started. I thought it was battery issue, charged it and still no start. I have lights, and the lights are bright. My dash panel comes on, and everything seems to be working fine other then ignition.

It's dark now, so I haven't checked ALL the fuses. I've had the tractor about 18months and this is the first time I've had any problems. I uses it three days ago to un load a trailer of hay, and put out a few bails. I went to put more hay out today and it doesn't fire up.

I do not have a code scanner, but was hoping there was away the digital display could show some error codes.
Thanks for everyone help in advance.

Are there any safety switches like on the PTO or transmission that could be preventing it from turning over?

Won't start is not very informative. The suggestion about safety switches is a good one. All the safeties must be satisfied. Does your display look normal? It appears you have no error codes. You did not specify whether the engine turns over but won't fire or won't turn over at all.

The engine won't turn over. It's like no power to the ignition switch. I can turn the key to aux position and all lights work, and dash display comes on.

However, the radio doesn't come on, and the engine doesn't do anything. I don't even here the relaY click.

Here's the whole story, I wasn't here when the trailer of hay was delivered. Helper, unloaded the trailer and left the key in AUX position. When I got in the tractor the other day to put more hay out, discovered key in AUX and dead batteries. I pulled diesel pickup around to jump batteries, and my helper connected the jumper cables. I recently found out he had the cables on the wrong terminals of the tractor IE hot to ground ground to hot and shorted across the battery. I was in the pickup when this happened. He said he swapped back when he realized mistake and I remember him messing with the cables I thought he was making sure they had a good connection. So, now this being added and learning for myself all of this, I'm going to trouble shoot all fuses and relays to see what was fried if anything and why I get no radio or crank.

The PTO switch is off, and all safety switches should be met. Both sticks in neutral, clutch pressed, double checked fluid levels etc. All that's left is fuses/relays to the best of my knowledge. All my other tractors and equipment are PRE 1985 Massey so no electronics. This one, I'm not real familiar with all the electronics and starting/cranking order of relays to starter.

The rest of the story is the important part. Reversing the polarities like that could have taken out any electronics - including your radio. That may end up being a VERY expensive mistake.
