I've got the hyd fluid all drained and I look for the mid-pto seal and I see what looks like a cover on the seal, but I haven't pulled it off. Is that what this is, I don't see any indication of it in the parts book. Does it just pop off? Hope it's OK to post links to pics here.

What you are looking at is actually the seal. The original seal is contoured like that. I don't think the replacement seal will look the same.

Yeah, the replacement seal is flat faced with the rubber coating around the edge like any other seal I've seen. So maybe it's just a different style seal on the face. I suppose I can put a screwdriver under the lip and see if it starts bending or coming off. The new seal doesn't look as big around OD wise, but maybe that's the style of the older seal, it has a sort of cover on it. At least the new seal seems to be the correct ID for the pto shaft. I hope it goes in OK.

Yes, I guess this is a continuation of the other thread, I just thought I'd get better exposure with the real question than adding on to my old thread which people are probably tired of by now.

If you are looking for different opinions, start a new thread. If you are getting good advice in a thread, stick with it. Your helpers will follow along with your progress with interest in the solution.. My 2 cents...

jd110 has good advice as to the seal.. IMO. ;)

I agree with jd110.

Well, the original seal had a large lip on the outside. I had to find a hardened prick punch to get the old one out, actually it was a horseshoe punch that I made long ago from a piece of potato digger steel rod, my screwdriver wouldn't touch it. The new seal went in just fine, but doesn't look like it has a cover on it. I'm changing the hyd filter now and as soon as that's back on, oil is going back in and we'll see what leaks now.

Thanks.
