Guys Had been looking at a 2022 TYM 474 HST but just came across a 2021 YT 235 with about 60hrs which I can pick up for about $19500- Just had the 50 hr service done- Both tractors are out of state so cant go see them- will be using it 85% to mow about 15ish acres of New england hilly field and the rest to move fallen trees and maybe grate a long dirt driveway- the TYM for about the same price seems to give me more std. options but I have heard that the Yanmar is much more reliable- Since either dealer is about 2 hrs away - I need reliability- Will just be used in the summer as it is a summer house- The Yanmar being a smaller footprint will be easier for my wife or son to use if they need to- SO which one do you guys think is a better choice- thks for helping a newbee out-

Both the TYM T474HST and the Yanmar YT235 are both reliable. I would say equals.

TYM acquired the parts engine manufacture Yanmar uses for the past 60+ years, they are Kukje our of Korea. So either machine will have Kukje made engine parts.

Sorry for making your choice now harder.

If you were mid-west or central, there is a 3rd choice, RK Tractor sold at Rural King Tractor Farm stores. And RK tractors are made by TYM and engines by Yanmar. (y)

Now for the wife and son, yes the Yanmar offers the compactness. And Yanmar offers more attachments should you need them.

The owner operators manual should cover much of this. There is a steep grade going up hill for 4WD you would need to review. And then slow in low. As for the PTO RPMs, 540 is normally the max. Your machine may have the e540 or 540e option, please review it too. As for most of the time, I run 480 to 500 RPMs. Why work the machine hard on easy grass cuttings? Now, if it's thick and dense, you could ramp it up some.

The more you use the machine, the more you will find the sweet spots for operation.

Congratulations on a nice tractor!

Use 4 wheel drive on hills. You will get a feel for what RPM to use in general. When using rear PTO I run at the PTO speed marked on the tacometer.

Read the manual, and watch a bunch of tractor Mike videos.

Mowing up hill was never a problem. Org. from the Mtns. WV.. I'm 2wd and in Ga. so never even considered having it. My 63 is 2wd. also with a FEL. so the rear wheels are water/Anti-freeze for the weight and traction. I keep a old International BH. for the counter balance Plus extra R wheel Weight. No P.Steering and it helps Tremendously!!
FEL+ 4wd is a big plus for the Hills though. IMO. The front weight and down force on the front wheels makes a huge difference. For me now P. steering would be a must have. Esp. if 4wd.
My Yanmar 3 speed PTO.. Never use 3rd. And 2nd gear I only run around 1500Rpms. 1st. Gear around 1900-2000 Eng. Rpms. 60" Frontier FM.
At one time A YM2500 From Fredricks. 4-Speed PTO. on it. Used a 6' BH.. I've put it in 4th PTO. and it was Insanely fast @ Idle!! Had to be for the Rice fields is my guess.

I recommend 4wd on hills when using a rotary cutter (brush hog) to maintain control. 4 wheels with traction is better than 2 should the rear start to slip. Make sure to turn 4wd off once you return to a hard surface to prevent wear.
Also, if you are operating on hills you may want to consider ballast in the tires to lower the center of gravity.

...and since this is a seasonal residence, and the tractor will sit lots, use a 2 or 3 amp battery maintainer 24/7. That will ensure a long battery life.
