2022 DK5310SEH Starting issue

Over the past week the machine has developed an issue when I go to start it. The starter will engage for about a half second, enough to turn the crank a little, then the starter just spins. It is like the solenoid turns on and then off. My neighbor thinks it is a bad or faulty sensor on the crank. If I turn the key enough times, it will start as it will turn the crank a little each time and finally fire off. Once running, it operates fine. We tested the battery and charging system and all seems fine. I checked the fuses, one was blown which was the horn and signals. I replaced that fuse.

Do you have any ideas? Dealer is closed today, so I am hoping someone on here ran in to the same issue.

Check your battery leads, grounds. My positive lead looked OK, but was quite "rotten" inside and it seemed something in the lead was oxidizing the copper cable? My starter would stutter as it would engage, pull more current than the bad lead could provide, then disengage, and then re-engage about 5 times a second! Anyways, a new positive lead solved it.

You may not be getting enough current through the wiring to maintain engagement between the starter and the flywheel. There is also the possibility that when your starter engages the flywheel to crank the engine then just spins you may be missing one or more teeth on the ring gear around the flywheel. Hope for the former.

There was once a problem with the battery to starter cable corroding on the inside, so check that. You can use a jumper cable to connect from battery to starter and test. Same thing with the ground.

Likely key switch, sensor/relay, battery cable, battery….
Start with the simple stuff. Have the battery load tested.
