Hey all. I can't get my parking brake to set on my 2042. I looked at the linkage and its not engaging the way it's supposed to. Does anyone know if theres an adjustment for this??

look in the cavity under yer tilting seat.. should be a sticker/plate stating FULL model # and serial number. Record those numbers.

Go to this website: PDF Manual Web Archive - enter numbers - should be able to download free owners manual, parts list with exploded diagrams, and mebbe a service manual for that tractor. Good chance you will find park brake adjustment procedures in those docs.

Nope nothing. Thanks, though. I actually have the owners manual but there's nothing about adjusting the parking brake.

Need a little more info.

Does the P-brake set like it's supposed to, but just doesn't hold?

The 2K's use an external, friction brake.

That being the case, you'd have to look at the tiny brake rotor and it's pads sticking out the side of the transaxle case. I'm not sure if the pads are adjustable or you just replace them.

the pedal doesn't latch. I was looking underneath at the linkage and it looks like it doesn't get far enough to latch.

That's a tough one.

Maybe have someone work the brake pedal and P-brake pull, while you watch the linkages?

Other than that, you could pull the seat/fender pan to have a look from top-side. Your 2042 might need a good look-over and cleaning that way anyway. Lots of stuff builds up under there.

Yep, did just that.....you can see the latching mechanism is about 1/8th of an inch from where it needs to be.

Maybe your right. I'll have to pull off the fender as much as I was trying to avoid it. Thanks.

Looks like the weld broke on the brake shaft. The part that that latches to the control is able to spin. Not sure if I made the best choice, now.
