Well, maybe premature to pull the PTO clutch. It's definitely worn, but the problem was in the ignition switch. That was the last remaining OEM switch and it's gone TU. I'll be replacing it with a simplified Off-On-Momentary On toggle with new crimp-on ring terminals.

Yes, the clutch is eventually going to need replacement.

No, it's not dead yet.

Over the years, all the wiring and switches have failed, one after another. Replacing the ignition switch and PTO switch with quality aftermarket, removing the reverse shut off, brake-start and seat switches, the only remaining piece of OEM wiring on the machine failed. The PTO would randomly disengage. Sometimes cycling the PTO switch would restart it. Then, I would have to open the hood and wiggle the connector at the PTO. At first, I thought the short must be inside the PTO, because the external wires and connector tested fine for continuity. After cursing at it for a month, I just cut off the plastic connector and crimped on two new female spade connectors. Problem solved in five minutes at no cost.
