2180 garden tractor, up grade to bigger wheels?

I know of a guy who post here who has a 2180 with 23"tires on the rear and 16" tires on front.I wonder how the tractor changed in how it mows ,or if goes a little faster or slower?I priced some rims and tire from dealer,all together total amount is $455.for this upgrade.I think the the guy goes by Mr,wiggles,not sure has anybody done this kind of upgrade any feed back would be helpful! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Hey SharpCut! Great to hear from you. The larger wheels I posted on the Cub pictures page and they have been a nice addition to my 2180. I bought the rear wheels from a guy on eBay, they came with the tires mounted. He doesn't sell on eBay anylonger, but has a website Small Engine Warehouse The tires were new, the wheels a little rusted but only on the insides. The front tires/rims I bought from the dealer, they are 16x6.5x8". I will say this, the tractor is implement ready with the tires and it rides nicer. The most noticeable difference was in steering. The larger front wheels make turning easier, that was very noticeable. You do sit a little higher too, I also added the high back seat from last years 2518. The deck lever is off now by one setting. If you used to cut at 4, you're now cutting at 3. My biggest fear was buying all this stuff and then having the rears hit the deck, they clear with ease, enough for AG's I think. The fronts need to be reverse mounted, so the valve stem is on the inside. This is so your left front wheel doesn't rub on the deck wheel. I think it cost me just under $300 for the seat ($100), rears ($79), front tires/rims. The front tires I bought were Carlisle Turf Pro, they aren't cheap, but you could find a cheaper tire. I'll post pix too. Some day I'm going to pick your brain on starting a lawn service.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If you want to take the extra step and enhance the performance and look of the machine replace the tires as well.
If you look on Carlisle tire (mfg) website, look at the turf pro
models. You will notice dimensions that are smaller than what they have stamped on the side wall. Cubs 23" x 9.5 x 12 is more like 20.3 x 8.7 x 12.....You should measure it directly to get the actual size.
Personally I find that its such crap that the tires that came with my 3204, were nowhere near the stamped size. So off they went and replaced with 4 plys all around using Turf Masters along with superlugs(winter use). You will have the true size (actually larger). I would also jump up a size for the fronts to 16.5 x7.5 x 8 instead of stock 16.5 x 6.5 x 8 ...gives a nice thread width, and smoother riding ability....
Of course I forgot to add the driving force as to why I scraped the wimpy 2plys - I was tired of fixing flats on those bicycle tires /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Steel wheels were my next option if the 4ply didnt help /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
