.22 WRF

I bought an old box of .22WRF at a garage sale and I'm not sure which revolver to shoot them with. I have a Ruger 3 screw single 6 with both cylinders, .22 and .22 wmr. The .22wrf is bigger than a .22 long rifle but smaller than a .22 wmr.

Should i get rid of them or can i shoot them?

They do not fit your gun. Do not attempt to stuff them in. They fit specific older rifles made for that cartridge. Sell them on E-bay. Someone with one of those rifles would likely be glad to get them.

The above article states they can be fired in .22 magnum chambers. But I still would not do it. I would sell them.

I saw the wiki link earlier and also seen one from gunbroker.com that said a 22 mag. single shot rifle would be okay but other rifles would have feeding problems. I don't have one. The box is only half full so what i think i will do is turn them in to the local police for disposal. It's much better to be safe than having fun with a risk.

Many places say it is OK, and I have done it myself when 22 Magnum first came out and was harder to find.

However, CCI Ammunition says not to do it.

A: The 22 WRF was a cartridge that was made a number of years ago, the Winchester model 1890 and some others. Shoot those cartridges only in guns so marked, WRF and WMR are different cartridges. While we are on that topic. We advise against the use of 22 WRF in pistols marked for that caliber, as we have found pistols that have small diameter barrels.

I've used .22 WRF out of a savage bolt action .22 WMR. One box and it fouled the end of the chamber a bit. The head spacing is not right, but it did shoot accurately despite that. It's a lighter charge, but the fouling made me decide I wouldn't make a habit out of it...
