Here are some shots of a 220 excavator I repaired today. I forgot to take the before pics while it was still all assembled, but I think you can tell what happened by the pieces I cut off.

Good repair , did you use a rod/wire suitable for the Bisalloy Bobcat uses ?

Just wondering , was your left index finger faster than your right when you typed your user name , seeing as your name is Brian ?

I didn't know Bobcat used any kind of special steel. I welded it with the same 70,000 psi mild steel wire I have always used. I've made repairs on Bobcats for years without any problems.

Brain is a nickname, so even though at times my left finger goes faster than my right when it shouldn't, this time it was intentional.

Nothing like that yet. I still consider myself an amateur welder. I weld good enough for the equipment I work on, but would never consider myself a professional welder.

I don't know about your area but Portable Line Boring & Welding is a good business with Heavy Equipment Repair.....Material cost is minimal but equipment cost is extreme to get started......Here's a shot of repairs done in house (not portable) with bore welder......

I wouldn't cut yourself short.....to take on that job shows the spunk to "Git-R-Done".......A wise man once told me "A guy that welds can fix anything".....

If you can't fix it.....Weld It!!!!......If you can't weld it .....Throw it Out!!

I gather that this method of repair is to fix worn out pin pivot holes?
After setup, it is automated? What about machining the bore to final
size? Some of that industrial equipment has pins that are several inches
in diameter.

Anyway, nice work, Brian. Sorry you have no "before" pix of the broken
boom.

Yes....it's the best method of repairing worn/trashed out holes.....the old fashioned way was boring out, press in bushing and weld in bushing....

At least this way does not weaken the original steel housing.....and it get machined back to original specs...

Our machine can weld up to 21" inches max.....
