JD 2210
Hi All,

Just got my 2210 returned after 50hr. servicing. Normally this is something I would do (and I'm the furthest thing from a mechanic), but I figured that I could have the tires loaded and Gator blades installed at the same time.

The cost ended up being ~$450 (I still haven't received the bill yet) but they picked up and delivered the tractor (15-20 miles away), did the servicing (tractor, loader and MMM), loaded the rear tires with Rim Guard, and put Gator blades on the MMM. What do you think of this price? Seems a little steep, but then i wasn't smart enough to include the 50 hr. in my negotiations like some of you.

BTW, I'm super pleased with the way the 62" MMM cuts, but had Gator's on my last JD and liked the way that they shreded leaves in the fall. I had the old blades returned so that if I want, I can re-install them in the spring. And that is a big IF, as the Gators not only chomp the leaves into tiny pieces, but the do the same for grass! I know, I know, this is only my first cut, but based on that, I'm falling in Love with Gator's all over again...Scary... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Yikes,

Just received the bill today: $592.43! That breaks down to $292.50 labor, $33.53 tax (we live in New England), and the rest in parts.

Did I get the shaft here? The shp rate at our dealership is $75/hr.

I guess if you have plenty of money it might not matter but it sounds steep to me. I think best advice is to know what it s going to cost before you take it though. If I don t have any warrenty work done mine will probably never see the dealer. The owners manuel is pretty comprehensive in it s detail of the servicing to be done. My dealer also has a mobile oil change, minor servicing trailor that will come to you.

The rate at my shop is $65 an hour, so for New England that's not bad /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
As far as the total bill, loading the tires would have been at least $100-150 alone.
I don't think I would have paid somebody to install a set of blades though.

Thanks guys,

I probably shouldn't have given the dealer carte-blanc and gotten a quote first. Just for grins, I'll call the salesman tomorrow and ask him to review it. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Might be a good time to make sure the dealer is committed to transporting the tractor at no charge for any warranty work---for life!

I did my 50 hr service myself, cost; $62 for filters and oil.
what are Gator blades?

Guys,

I screwed up by giving the dealer carte-blanc with this servicing; however I've found out that his charges aren't that far out of wack for dealer rates... As for the Gator blades; IMHO they are the best thing fof a MMM. Not only do the blades cut, but they have "fingers" that point upwards and shred whatever comes into contact with them. When it comes to leaves; nothing is more effective for rendering them into the tiniest pieces! While the jury is still out, right now I think they will stay on my 2210 well into the mowing season -- a full report will be forthcoming then! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I've had 3 new JD machines for my property in the last 6 years. The first, a 445, I let the dealer do the service according to a service package he was offering. Cost = $250. The second, a 2210, I was having some warranty leak problems and wanted to let the dealer do a 50 hour service--for the records more than any other reason. They did everything but the tranny becasue that was the leaking system. Cost = $100 approximately. The third, my 4110, I did the whole thing myself. I took my time and detailed every possible service item including installing a new set of blades (I rotate sharp blades several times during the mowing season). Cost = 1 day of my time + $125 approximate in materials--this includes filters and oil for two more oil changes.

I wouldn't feel bad for a second for allowing him carte blanche, but would make sure that he and your salesman know that you have high expectations for future A-1 service from the dealership. I think I might have also mentioned that now is a good time to get the dealer to commit to taking care of any transportation costs for any warranty work. If they are worth their salt, they shouldn't have any problem with taking care of you now. In other words, use this expenditure to your advantage.
