Over the weekend I finally got a chance to mow with my 2210 and 62C. This was my first time mowing with this tractor/deck and I was concerned about the noise level as my deck doesn't have the isolation kit. I haven't done anything about this yet, so was concerned and curious!

What I found was that the deck stays very quiet up to the "PTO RPM" setting. If I pushed the throttle/RPM's any higher, the deck made a high-pitched whine reminisant of a
supercharger or non-synchronized reverse gear on an old car - even 50 more RPM's would cause this.

So...is this intentional to tell you to throttle back, or is this the
dreaded 62C sound I have read so much about? The difference in noise level is incredible.

I would appreciate any input.

I have noticed the noise when I really crank up my RPM's. The thing I have noticed though, I have been cutting tall grass because I can't get into the yard with rain every other day. I have been cutting at around 2200 rpm and it doesn't miss a blade. It just doesn't throw it as far.

When I first mowed with the 2210/62c, I noticed the same thing. Really whined - especially through the ROPS. When I was at my dealer the following week, I had them order me the isolation kit. While there, I was talking with the mechanic some. He said that I shouldn't put the kit on. He said that with the kit, when the mower gets under some load, the gear box with want to torque (twist) because of the rubber bushings. This will prematurely wear the mower belt. He said he's had some in the shop already that needed the belt replaced. So, I still have the kit waiting. In the meantime, I've mowed about 6 hours off and on. It seems that the noise is getting better (less). According to the Deere DTAC sheet, the noise will lessen when the bearings and sheaves break in. Maybe its just me getting used to the sound, or maybe it really is getting better.

So, I'm going to let it be for now. I have the isolation kit if I ever get the notion to try it. I do believe it is getting better with time. Not nearly as loud as when I first fired that mower up.

<font color="green">Can someone tell me what is included in the 2210/62C isolation kit and its cost? This is the first I have heard of the kit.

Thanks,

It's basically some longer bolts and (rubber?) washers that are used to isolate metal-to-metal contact of the gearbox on top of the mower deck. I don't have the part # at home, it's at work, if I remember I'll post tomorrow. I also have the price at work I will post that too. This kit is also for the 62C on the X series.

Guys,

Thanks for the info, glad it's not my imagination. I will live with it for now and see if it improves after 10 hours of mowing.
Sounds absolutely wicked at full throttle. My son thinks it's cool, my wife is not impressed.

Sure cuts the grass at the high RPM's, too.

Here's the Deere DTAC solution sheet for the 62C noise problem. Although it only mentions the (X) series tractor, my dealer got a kit for my 2210/62C without question. If you wanted the cost you could go to deere.parts.com and enter the part number.

I need to take a look at mine. I do not have the same loud noise that you guy's are mentioning here.

Decks built from around Jan 2003 on already have the isolation kit installed....how long have you had your 2210/62C?
